This duet of Kurt Vonnegut drop caps started as one based on his book Slaughterhouse-Five. It pulled inspiration from his books with its simplistic, mono-weight, line-based illustration and offset colors. The skull is a reference to existing covers, but the wings were a choice inspired by illustrations and themes within the book. They create the V shape for Vonnegut as well as subtlety hide the number five in the feathers. To create a pair, I chose his book Breakfast of Champions. The design is based on a martini, and visuals from within the book are tied into the line art. Similarly to the number five, the letters B, O, and C are hidden in the olives.
